Source of problems
Repeated or occasional intestinal sluggishness can affect anyone.
Our often very refined diet lacks essential nutrients and does not contain sufficient daily fibre for our needs. However, fibre is our best ally in ensuring regular intestinal transit.
Another factor can be a change in habits (travel, holidays involving different eating habits), a period of short-term stress or medication.
Also, as we get older we also start to notice increasing intestinal sluggishness.
Positive steps to improve intestinal transit
Eat more fibre!
Cooked green vegetables, raw vegetables, cereals, dried and fresh fruits (prunes for example) are the main sources of fibre. Reasonable daily consumption is recommended.
Move!
A sedentary lifestyle should be avoided.
Stomach movements play a very important role in ensuring the smooth operation of the intestinal system. The movements involved in walking and playing sports stimulate our intestinal reflexes.
