Composants actifs
Oméga-3 acides gras (Acide eicosapentaénoïque (EPA) et acide docosahexaénoïque (DHA)): les acides oméga-3 gras sont essentiels pour un métabolisme normal. Ils semblent avoir un effet anti-inflammatoire et un effet positif sur le système cardiovasculaire et nerveux.
Vitamine A: un antioxydant essentiel pour le système immunitaire, la croissance de l'os, la vision, la croissance cellulaire.
Vitamine D: substance ressemblant au cholestérol qui joue un rôle important entre autres dans le maintien de la solidité des os et de la fonction musculaire.
Usage
Historiquement, l'huile de foie de morue a été utilisée pour traiter le rachitisme chez les enfants et les douleurs rhumatismales chez les adultes. Grâce à sa forte teneur en acides gras oméga-3, en vitamines A et D, on a ensuite utilisé cette huile contre les troubles du métabolisme du calcium, du système respiratoire, de la circulation sanguine et du système nerveux.
La vitamine D peut être produite dans le corps humain sous l'influence des rayons ultraviolets du soleil. C’est pourquoi, il semble utile pour certaines communautés de prendre régulièrement un peu de vitamine D supplémentaire.
L'huile de foie de morue, qu’on administrait à de nombreux enfants au début du 20ème siècle, était de couleur jaunâtre avec un goût rance et une odeur de poisson pourri, ce qui fait que la plupart des gens ressentent aujourd’hui un dégoût face à ce produit.
Aujourd'hui, grâce aux techniques d'extraction et de conservation efficaces, la qualité est largement améliorée. Le goût et l'odeur sont par conséquent plutôt neutres.
