Lavandin
Plante hybride, fruit d'un croisement entre L. angustifolia et L. latifolia . Sa tige est plus longue (60 à 80 cm) que celle de la lavande, son épi floral plus gros, plus pointu et de couleur franchement violette. Il se distingue aussi de la lavande par la présence de deux épillets latéraux . Ses graines sont stériles, sa reproduction s’effectue par bouturage, c’est ainsi que contrairement aux champs de lavandes aux tons nuancés, les champs de lavandins ont une couleur violette uniforme.

Composants actifs
Huile essentielle (linalol, acétate de linalyle, camphre, eucalyptol): ont une action antidouleur, anti-inflammatoire, antiseptique, anxiolytique.
Acides phénoliques (acide rosmarinique et chlorogénique): antioxydant puissant, action anti-inflammatoire et calmante.
Flavonoïdes: antioxydants.
Anthocyanes: antioxydants.
Tannins: ont une action astringente.
Usage
La lavande est probablement le parfum le plus ancien du monde. Chez les anciens Égyptiens elle était utilisée dans des baumes pour être utilisée comme parfum pour les riches.
Dioscoride écrivait que, lorsqu'elle est ingérée, elle pouvait soulager les indigestions, les maux de tête et les maux de gorge. En usage externe, la lavande peut être utilisée pour nettoyer les plaies, les brûlures ou traiter les affections de la peau.
La lavande était répandue sur le sol pour rafraîchir l'air dans les chambres, les salles de bains ou utilisée comme encens lors des cérémonies religieuses.
La présence de camphre et d’eucalyptol dans l’ huile essentielle de lavandin la rend moins appropriée comme composant de parfum, par comparaison aux autres sortes de lavande. Par contre elle est parfaite pour être diffusée dans une pièce et pour être utilisée comme ingrédient dans des produits de soins cosmétiques et d’hygiène personnelle. Grâce à ces deux composants, cette huile essentielle agit bien contre les démangeaisons, calme les douleurs ainsi que les piqûres et morsures d'insectes. Elle est facilement absorbée par la peau et procure une sensation de refroidissement instantané similaire à celle du menthol.
En aromathérapie l'huile essentielle est utilisée pour son action anxiolytique, ce qui a été récemment confirmé scientifiquement.
