A succulent, perennial and dioecious (male or female, cannot propagate on its own) found in cold regions, and particularly likes altitude (up to 2280 metres). Made up of several branches from the same thick root, it reaches a height of 5 to 35 cm, with small pink flowers in clusters at the top of the plant.

Active components

Salidroside, Rosavins: these components have proven antidepressant, anxiolytic, adaptogenic, neurovascular protective and antifatigue properties.

p-Tyrosol: an antioxidant that is also found in olive oil.

Phenols: contribute to the antioxidant action.


Use of rhodiola rosea root dates back to the time of the Vikings, who used it to increase their strength and endurance. Traditionally, rhodiola was used to support physical endurance and performance at work and to prolong life. It is used to counter fatigue, altitude sickness, depression, impotence, digestive disorders and nervous system disorders. Rhodiola helps to stimulate perception and improve mood and has beneficial effects on fatigue and headaches caused by stress. 1-6 Studies of athletes have revealed that not only concentration, speed and physical strength are enhanced, but also endurance and resistance to stress. 7-14 The plant has protective effects on the nervous system, thanks its powerful antioxidant action, among others. 15-21
